A baseball assigning board should sound like baseball. HUI lets an association configure the positions and crew requirements it actually uses, including plate and base responsibilities for two-person crews and additional positions when the organization supports larger crews. Crew requirements can vary by division so the assigner sees the positions that belong on that game.
Varsity, junior varsity, tournament, and other division schedules can remain distinct while sharing the same organization workflow. Umpire availability, sport eligibility, configured positions, and overlapping assignments help narrow the pool before an offer goes out. The assigner can fill the crew manually or use Auto Assign and review the result before publication.

Doubleheaders and tournament schedules put multiple games close together, often at the same complex. HUI keeps each game, field, start time, division, and crew separate so the assigner can review overlapping work and the umpire can see which assignment belongs where. Locations and fields can be maintained within the organization rather than hidden in a message thread.
When a field or start time changes, the update remains attached to the game. Accepted umpires receive meaningful change information through the organization's configured notification channels. That makes same-day communication easier to follow because the latest detail appears with the assignment and crew instead of as an isolated text.
Tournament directors and local associations can import a schedule, review the games, assign the required positions, and monitor coverage as the event changes. HUI does not invent baseball rules or force every association into the same crew configuration; the organization defines the positions and eligibility that match its own operation.
RAINOUTS, RESCHEDULES, AND TURNBACKS
Keep the crew intact when the game is postponed.
A rainout does not always mean a cancellation. In HUI, postponement retains assignments instead of silently deleting the crew. When the new date or field is known, the assigner can update the game and work from the existing record. If an umpire cannot make the rescheduled game and turns it back, the opening remains visible for replacement.
Reminders apply to pending responses on active games. Accepted and declined states remain distinct, and replacement publication does not erase the rest of a two-person or three-person crew. Crew communication stays anchored to the game so the plate umpire and base partners can work from current information.
Assignment acceptance, game fees, and mileage remain connected to the umpire's assignment. Mileage is available only when enabled by the HUI and follows the organization's configured policy, trip type, minimum miles, rounding, and rate order. That preserves the financial context for baseball and softball associations that reimburse travel between home, fields, and remote venues.
